Plan de Arte Cívico

The Plan De Arte Cívico del Pueblo Entero (The Civic Art Plan for All the People) is a three part Civic Art plan created in the City of Brownsville as part of the project Hacemos La Ciudad. The content was created in partnership with residents, thought leaders and city officials who responded to the prompt "What would a more equitable and just version of Brownsville look like and how can we build it?" The Plan is divided into three books: BODY, THOUGHT and LAND. Each book is directed at a different audience: BODY is directed at individual residents of the City of Brownsville and provides information about how individuals can heal their individual and collective historic trauma in order to act more equitably in the world; THOUGHT is directed to self identified thought and culture leaders. This book provides information about how Thought Leaders can strengthen their ability to imagine equity and justice in the future and inspire others to take civic action; LAND is directed towards city leaders and elected officials. LAND includes recommendations for the future of Brownsville based on information gathered from the community, and provides city leaders with the directive to listen to their constituents and be responsive. The Plan De Arte Cívico is divided into three parts because we believe it will require all three parties to successfully build a more just version of the city. In order to provide transparency in the process and increase accountability of all stakeholders, all audiences are welcome and encouraged to read all three parts of the Plan. The Plan De Arte Cívico del Pueblo Entero is a culminating work of our Hacemos la Ciudad Project. In 2020 we will launch a series of reading groups and comités (committees) to take forward the principles and ideas set forth in this Plan.
